Open-side hay sheds in North Florida: what to know

An open-side hay shed is a roof on steel columns with most of the walls left off, so breezes carry heat and moisture away from the stack. It is the least costly way to get round bales out of the rain, and a tractor with a spear can reach the hay from either long side. The tradeoff is weather on the outer row, so many owners sheet the side facing the prevailing storms or extend the eave into a deep overhang. Column spacing should leave room to swing a loader between posts.
